Use OBS Virtual Camera with CAM4

OBS Virtual Camera makes your OBS scene available as a webcam input. CAM4 recommends its external-encoder route for an optimal OBS setup, but documents virtual camera as an alternative when needed.

Select the OBS picture

  1. 1.Open OBS and add the camera source you intend to use.
  2. 2.Check the scene and click Start Virtual Camera.
  3. 3.Open CAM4's browser broadcast window and choose Regular Streaming.
  4. 4.Select OBS Virtual Camera as the camera input.
  5. 5.Select the microphone separately, check the preview, and go live through CAM4.

For this route, you do not need to click OBS Start Streaming. That control is used for sending an encoded stream, not simply providing a webcam picture to the browser.

If the source is missing

Confirm that the virtual camera is running and that the browser has camera permission. Reopen the device list or restart the browser if needed. CAM4 also notes that a computer restart can be necessary after installation.

Selecting the OBS picture does not automatically route the OBS audio mix into CAM4. Check the intended microphone and live sound separately before the show.
