How to Monitor OBS with Projectors and Multiview
An OBS Projector displays a source, scene, or output in a separate window or on another screen. It can help you watch your framing without keeping the whole OBS interface in front of you.
You do not need a physical projector. A second monitor can display a fullscreen projector output.
Choose what to monitor
Decide whether you want one camera, a complete scene, or the current output. These are different views.
A projector for a particular scene remains a view of that scene. It is not automatically proof that the same scene is currently going to your live destination.
Open a source or scene projector
- 1.Right-click the required source or scene in OBS.
- 2.Choose Windowed Projector to open a separate window, or Fullscreen Projector to use a display.
- 3.For fullscreen, select the intended monitor.
- 4.Check the displayed picture before starting an output.
Right-click inside a projector for its available controls. Depending on the projector and OBS settings, you can change behavior such as always-on-top or cursor visibility.
Use Multiview for several scenes
Open View → Multiview (Windowed), or choose a display under Multiview (Fullscreen).
Multiview lets you monitor multiple scenes together. Its layout and interaction settings are available in OBS's General settings. Be deliberate about options that allow clicking a view to switch scenes; a monitoring screen can become a control surface if enabled.
For a simple camera show, one scene projector may be easier to manage than a screen filled with scene thumbnails.
Keep monitoring separate from publishing
Opening a projector does not by itself start a stream or recording. Likewise, seeing a picture on a second screen does not confirm the destination is receiving it.
If another app is sharing a projector window, that app's selection determines what its viewers see. Choose the intended scene or output and test the actual receiving view.
Avoid recapturing the monitor
If OBS captures the display showing its own projector, you can create a repeating mirror effect. Keep the projector off the captured screen or use a more specific capture source.
Test any saved projector layout after reconnecting monitors, because the display arrangement may differ from the last session.
